The Pastor’s Word – The Shining Son

Category : Uncategorized

A few weeks ago, I woke up so sore. It felt like someone had beat me in my sleep. I stayed in bed longer than usual and it took everything in me to go about my day. But I had no choice. Lying around wasn’t an option, so I got up.

The parking situation made it such, that when I arrived at my first destination, I had to walk a bit of a distance. So, I pulled my tired, beat down self out of my car and began to walk. The sun was shining on this October day and with each step I took, the warmth of the sun provided the strength to keep going. It warmed my beat-up limbs. It was almost like a lubricant and I felt like I could walk all day.

I realized, in that moment, how much the SON is like that when my heart is hurt, my soul disquieted within, or my life in shambles. I realized that when I wake to a day of feeling beat down by life, if I just realize I have no choice but to pray to My God. I will not only receive the strength to get out of my bed of affliction; the SON will meet me and give me what I need to run on and see what the end will be! Read Psalm 25.

The Pastor’s Word – Were You There?

Category : Uncategorized

This past Sunday we celebrated three years of ministry. It was such a blessed time in the Lord! Rev. preached a powerful message. The Praise Team and the Graceful Dancers brought folks to their feet. Prayers were lifted to a God that hears and acts. The Ushers stood and made sure our guests were comfortable. Worship Leaders inspired us. And Hospitality put their foot in the preparation and the food. Our church was full of family, friends and even some from the neighborhood.

Were you there? Many came to support and encourage what God has birthed. Were you counted in the number? A handful of members were available to prepare for our guests and clean up afterwards. Were your hands available?

I’m overflowing with thanks to those who were there, available and counted in the number. My prayer for the rest, is that one day you will connect how 10% of your time, talent, testimony and treasure (tithes) given to the Lord will open up the windows of heaven with blessings you won’t have room to receive. If you don’t believe me, read Malachi 3:10 and put God to the test!

The Pastor’s Word – Thank You

Category : Uncategorized

Peace and Greetings, in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through whom all things are possible!  We’re three years into something at one point I couldn’t conceive.  The plan was set and the preparation complete, but life changed dramatically.  However, the promises of God never change and here Grace UCC stands.

I’m so grateful for the confidence of my pastor, The Rev. Dr. Ozzie E. Smith Jr. and Covenant UCC; The Rev. Tom Norwalk, our Association Minister; The Illinois Conference President Rev. Dr. Jorge Morales and the past and current Ministers of Church Vitality and Stewardship: Rev. Dr. Melbalenia Evans and Rev. Dr. David Russell.  God has sent many others who have nurtured and supported our ministry.

We continue to thank our God in heaven for your kindness.  And for the very special people of God that show up each and every Sunday: I LOVE YOU SO VERY MUCH!  You are my anchor when I feel like I’m drowning.  You are my angels when I don’t think I can go any further.  You are the blessings that God has sent for this season and for that I am grateful! Continue to stand with me and bring others to Christ.
